INTRODUCTION:- This blog is the 2nd part of the AFGHAN JIHAD& SOVIET-AFGHAN WAR SERIES.
As soon as SAUDI ARABIA gave the call for JIHAD volunteers from around 34 and more Muslim countries joined the fight. Many rich Saudis also came to Afghanistan to join the struggle .one among them was OSAMA BIN LADEN.who couldn't fight on the ground supported these forces by providing funds. these fighters from all around the world joined their hands with the local warlords and called themselves as MUJAHIDEEN.

USA AND PAKISTAN SUPPORT
USA who was in the cold war with the USSR thought that this is the right time to defeat the USSR and joined hands with the MUJAHIDEENS with the help of PAKISTAN.
Countries like CHINA TURKEY SAUDI ARABIA USA FUNDED the mujahideen USA (C.I.A) also supplied ARMS/WEAPONS and EQUIPMENT while PAKISTAN (I.S.I) provided the MUJAHIDEENS with essential training, intelligence input, PAKISTAN'S INTER SERVICES INTELLIGENCE(ISI) played a crucial role in RADICALISNG Muslim youth and even RECRUITMENT was done by PAKISTAN(ISI).

A young AFGHANI MUJAHID called AHMED SHAH MASOOD with his gallantry and bravery became a prominent figure among the mujahideen and later led a series of war against the USSR between 1980 to 1985 in the valleys. these wars proved very helpful to the mujahideen since they came out victorious in most of it.one such example is a war in 1981.

In 1981 USSR saw a major loos that was when the MUJAHIDEEN took control over the KHOST AIR BASE OF USSR.city of KHOST was a strategic position to the USSR since it was in the PAKISTAN-AFGANISTAN BORDER. This siege of the city cum airbase continued till 8 years ie 1981 to 1989.cut of access to an airbase means no proper air control of the area to make matters worst for USSR

In 1986 the USA gave HAND-HELD STINGER GROUND TO AIR MISSILE LAUNCHERS to the mujahideen through PAKISTAN.STINGERS MISSLES because of their high capacity, range, and precision could gun down RUSSIAN(USSR) CHOPPERS effectively

He is best know for leading OPERATION CYCLONE, the largest ever military operation of Central intelligence agency CIA which administered & supplied military equipment to AFGHAN MUJAHIDEEN.

Najibullah made good relations with the warlords and gave them high positions in the government in return they gave back KABUL. Najibullah's government and the mujahids sought out to sign an agreement on how the country will move forward.
By this time the gallant hero AHMED SHAH MASSOUD had become the head of mujahids. All agreed to MASOUDS proposal of an ISLAMIC COALITION GOVERNMENT expect for one GULBUDDIN HEKMATYAR who wanted to rule single.
just when you think the crises are over and the Afghan problem is solved.
A new series war continued between MASOOD's fighters VS HEKMATYAR's fighters. In 1994 when MASOOD was winning against HEKMATYAR , MOHAMMAD MULLAH OMAR diverted his men to fight against MASOOD. they called themselves as "TALIBAN"
