INTRODUCTION:- This blog is the 2nd part of the AFGHAN JIHAD& SOVIET-AFGHAN WAR SERIES.

As soon as SAUDI ARABIA gave the call for JIHAD volunteers from around 34 and more Muslim countries joined the fight. Many rich Saudis also came to Afghanistan to join the struggle .one among them was OSAMA BIN LADEN.who couldn't fight on the ground supported these forces by providing funds. these fighters from all around the world joined their hands with the local warlords and called themselves as MUJAHIDEEN.

USA AND PAKISTAN SUPPORT

USA who was in the cold war with the USSR thought that this is the right time to defeat the USSR and joined hands with the MUJAHIDEENS with the help of PAKISTAN.

Countries like CHINA TURKEY SAUDI ARABIA USA FUNDED the mujahideen USA (C.I.A)  also supplied ARMS/WEAPONS and EQUIPMENT while PAKISTAN (I.S.I) provided the MUJAHIDEENS with essential training, intelligence input, PAKISTAN'S INTER SERVICES INTELLIGENCE(ISI) played a crucial role in RADICALISNG Muslim youth and even RECRUITMENT was done by PAKISTAN(ISI).

A young AFGHANI MUJAHID called AHMED SHAH MASOOD with his gallantry and bravery became a prominent figure among the mujahideen and later led a series of war against the USSR between 1980 to 1985 in the valleys. these wars proved very helpful to the mujahideen since they came out victorious in most of it.one such example is a war in 1981.

In  1981 USSR saw a major loos that was when the MUJAHIDEEN took control over the KHOST AIR BASE OF USSR.city of KHOST was a strategic position to the USSR since it was in the PAKISTAN-AFGANISTAN BORDER. This siege of the city cum airbase continued till 8 years ie 1981 to 1989.cut of access to an airbase means no proper air control of the area to make matters worst for USSR

In 1986 the USA gave HAND-HELD STINGER GROUND TO AIR MISSILE LAUNCHERS to the mujahideen through PAKISTAN.STINGERS MISSLES because of their high capacity, range, and precision  could gun down  RUSSIAN(USSR) CHOPPERS effectively

He is best know for leading OPERATION CYCLONE, the largest ever military operation of Central intelligence agency CIA which administered & supplied military equipment to AFGHAN MUJAHIDEEN.

As a result of this in 1987, the number of USSR soldiers in Afghanistan saw a massive decrease. A new USSR backed government was set up in KABUL Afghanistan under the presidentship of NAJIBULLAH. Afghanistan was "OFFICIALLY" made a "MUSLIM NATION" in 1990 and reference to "COMMUNISM" was taken from its constitution.

Najibullah made good relations with the warlords and gave them high positions in the government in return they gave back KABUL. Najibullah's government and the mujahids sought out to sign an agreement on how the country will move forward.

By this time the gallant hero AHMED SHAH MASSOUD had become the head of mujahids. All agreed to MASOUDS proposal of an ISLAMIC COALITION GOVERNMENT expect for one GULBUDDIN HEKMATYAR who wanted to rule single.

just when you think the crises are over and the Afghan problem is                                                         solved.

A new series war continued between MASOOD's fighters VS HEKMATYAR's fighters. In 1994 when MASOOD was winning against HEKMATYAR , MOHAMMAD MULLAH OMAR diverted his men to fight against MASOOD. they called themselves as "TALIBAN"

INTRODUCTION: In this series, we will learn a very interesting and important topic that is SOVIET-AFGHAN WAR AND AFGHAN JIHAD

 "AFGHANISTAN" such a beautiful country which is close to many INDIAN HEARTS irrespective of our religious opinion .but, unfortunately, this mountainous country is on the news for all the bad reasons. one of which being terrorism.before understanding the Afghan jihad we must first understand as to what caused it.and how PAKISTAN, USA, USSR(RUSSIA), SAUDI ARABIA, CHINA. gave birth it.due to which AFGHANISTAN is suffering even today.

In the 1960s Afghanistan was governed by Mohammad Zahir shah.under his rule Afghanistan saw progressive development and was not in war with any of its neighboring countries and was just focused on its development. but this wouldn't continue too long. in 1973 Mohammad Daoud khan the 1st cousin of Mohammad Zahir Shah betrayed him when Shah was in Italy for medical treatment. he proclaimed himself as the PRESIDENT, PM, ARMY CHIEF, and the HOME MINISTER and declared AFGHANISTAN as the AFGHANISTAN REPUBLIC.

During MOHAMMAD DAOUD KHAN'S rule, the country's economy increased and the country continued to develop.but on the other hand since he paid much emphasis on the PASHTUN NATIONALIST MOMENT the leftists as well as the other ethnic groups/tribes started opposing him. when MIR AKBAR KHYBER rose against him, Khan assassinated him .as a consequence of the assassination the revolt which was until then not much aggressive took the form of a rebellion .this rebellion is often referred as the SAUR REBELLION of 1978

The COMMUNIST PEOPLE'S DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF AFGHANISTAN  (CPDPA)OR (PDPA) supported and funded by Moscow assassinated DAOUD and his family NUR MOHAMMAD TARAKI a senior member of KHALQ also called as "the leftist newspaper" a group of PDPA  was appointed as the PRESIDENT and HAFIZULLAH AMIN was made the PRIME MINISTER.TARAKI encouraged women education, women in politics, gender equality and also had new land reforms with increased tax.

the locals felt that these NEW REFORMS were against their religious beliefs and they opposed it. any kind of counter was brutally suppressed and were later imprisoned.in 1979 an uprising took place which led to 1000s dead. this followed MUTINIES in KABUL, HALALABAD, GHAZNI.

One year ago in 1978, a treaty was signed between PDPA and the SOVIET UNION(USSR) which allowed PDPA to call the SOVIET MILITARY for assistance.with the help of this treaty Taraki called in the soviets .the soviets reluctantly sent troops, equipment, weapons. seeing the situation of president TARAKI his prime minister HAFIZULLAH AMIN betrayed him and took over his position.

struck by the act of HAFIZULLH AMIN, General secretary of USSR  LEONID BREZHNEW decided to take control of the situation themself.

THE INVASION 

On DECEMBER 25 1979 USSR invaded Afghanistan with 80,000 troops.

that the Islamic radicalization of Iran would spread itself to Afghanistan and subsequently would enter the Muslim majority region of the USSR which might disintegrate the soviet union. Amin took shelter in a palace near Kabul.he thought that the USSR was on his side until they captured him. He was assassinated by the soviet SPECIAL FORCE called SPETSNAZ.later the soviets replaced AMIN with much moderate BABRAK KARMAL

the local warlords were united against the ATHIEST LEFT-WING COMMUNIST REGIME and picked up arms. They called themself as MUJAHIDEEN. Taking advantage of this critical situation in Afghanistan SAUDI ARABIA gave a call of HOLY WAR and thus the TERROR IN AFGHANISTAN STARTED.

From here the terrorism in Afghanistan started .we will learn that in detail including the PAKISTANI, US, CHINESE role in terrorizing this beautiful country in the next part

INDIAN OCEAN (part-2)

INDIAN STRATEGY IN INDIAN OCEAN AGAINST CHINA  

INTRODUCTION: In today's blog we will learn about INDIAN PRESENCE IN IN EASTER INDIAN OCEAN and its countermeasures to combat CHINESE MARITIME AGGRESSION.

Though Srilankan govt said that militarization of the port will not be done but we can not rely on this statement for too long.INDIA, however, can use the cochin base of Kerala or can use Chennai if necessary.

2.BANGLADESH

INDIA has agreed to design, fund and develop deep seaport at PYRA SEAPORT.

Both nations have agreements to use Chittagong and Monglo ports. Moreover India can use PRADEEP port of ODISSA.

3.MYANMAR

China has oil and gas pipelines running through  MYANMAR from KYAUK PHYU PORT.

that is why like the CHABAHAR port in IRAN, access to a major deep seaport in the eastern Indian ocean is very necessary. 

DAWEI PORT  of Myanmar is one of the major Economic port for India.and  serves INDIA like the CHABAHAR PORT.

Currently, larger aircraft are being flown in from the mainland at least 800 km

away to ANDAMAN NICOBAR ISLANDS. The new permanent airbase is planned on the GREAT NICOBAR ISLAND in addition to the present CARNIC AIRFORCE BASE on the CAR NICOBAR ISLAND  the airbase would be able to station larger aircraft like SU-30MKI and other combat assets.

 the INDIAN NAVY has so far commissioned 4 of its AMPHIBIOUS LANDING CRAFTS at TRI-SERVICES COMMAND HQ in PORT BLAIR .It has also stationed long-range maritime 

reconnaissance aircraft, the POSEIDON 8I PLANES to keep a tab on the movement of the Chinese submarines in the INDIAN OCEAN

Soon the DRDO will set up a long-range missile facility on the south Andaman's Rutland islands. A deepwater port at KAMOTRA is also being planned to enhance INDIAN maritime capability

4.INDONESIA

INDIA and INDONESIA have instituted a joint task force to improve connectivity in the port infrastructure near SABANG and giving extended economic and military access to INDIA. SABANG PORT has a depth of 40 meters which is good even for submarines 

SINGAPORE 

INDIAN AND SINGAPORE NAVIES have signed a logistics cooperation .singapore's CHANGI naval base will be used for refueling and resupplying the permanently deployed INDIAN WARSHIPS at the MALACCA STRAIT, aimed at securing INDIA'S interests in the CHOKE POINT.

MAJOR PORTION OF CHINAS EPORT/IMPORT/ENERGY SUPPLY GOES THROUGH THIS TRANSIT(MALACCA STRAIT)

5.VIETNAM 

INDIA AND VIATNAMEESE NAVIES had their very first JOINT EXERCIS.this could mark the INDIAN  presence in the INDIAN OCAEN

CONCLUSION: As we have learned from the INDIAN OCEAN STRATEGY PART1 AND 2 we can understand that although INDIA has its presence in the major rims of the Indian ocean there are a few projects which are either under construction or under planning. If we want to safeguard INDIA'S MARITIME INTERESTS then its important that we work on these projects.

INDIA's STRATEGY IN INDIAN OCEAN AGAINST CHINA 

INTRO: In today's blog, let us understand INDIA'S PRESENCE in the INDIAN OCEAN REGION and why it is crucial for INDIA both ECONOMICALLY & STRATEGICALLY TO DOMINATE THE INDIAN OCEAN. 

Nearly 80% of CHINAS's ENERGY SUPPLY goes through the INDIAN OCEAN, to safeguard chinas interests it is playing really smart in the Indian ocean 

let's start with

1. DJIBOUTI:

Chinas oversea naval base.

Remember the USA, FRANCE, JAPAN, also has its MILITARY BASES in DJIBOUTI. And CHINA considers the USA as its ECONOMICAL ENEMY and on the other hand relations between CHINA AND JAPAN are not good. To tackle this emerging problem and prove its dominance in the INDIAN OCEAN BELT, china built its NAVAL BASE in DJIBOUTI. 

 CHINA sees INDIA & US as PROMINENT COMPETITOR as INDIA'S GDP growth rate is increasing rapidly.INDIA used DIPLOMACY to counter chinas so-called "MARITIME SILK ROUTE "  whos intentions were to surround INDIA in the INDIAN OCEAN. INDIAN FORCES have ties with the US and FRANCE regarding the DJIBOUTI NAVAL BASE. And JAPAN also allowed INDIAN TROOPS to use their facility.

so this area is well secured to counter Chinese presence.

2.DAMMAN

India has already posted DEFENCE ATTACHE to the US CENTRAL COMMAND HEAD-QUARTERS IN BAHRAIN. Due to which the INDIAN AND US NAVIES HAE A FUNCTIONAL PARTNERSHIP IN the western INDIAN OCEAN. This agreement between INDIA and the US proved very advantageous to INDIA strategically because the are of responsibility include RED SEA, GULF of OMAN, PERSIAN GULF and WESTERN ARABIAN SEA.

FRANCE also has its MILITARY BASES in the UNITED ARAB EMIRATES

3.OMAN

INDIA has secured access to the key strategic PORT of DUQM in the Arabian sea for military use and logistic support.

another big advantage for INDIA is it has an INDIAN LISTENING STATION at OMAN which is just 400 km from GWADAR PORT in BALOCHISTAN PROVINCE of PAKISTAN which PAKISTAN and CHINESE use very often. The INDIA NAVY does regular surveillance in this region including AREAL SURVELIENCE to detect any suspicious moments.

China has taken GWADAR PORT in LEASE for 40 years from PAKISTAN.

4.MAURITIUS

INDIA's priority in MAURITIUS is developing a new AIRSTRIP and JETTY FACILITY on the islands which are set to install state of the art TELE-COMMUNICATIONS. INDIAN NAVY can use them from 2020 and after.INDIA currently uses 

5SEYCHELLES 

According to some reports, INDIA and FRANCE are to develop military basses in SEYCHELLES.

INDIAN and FRENCH NAVIES have successfully conducted 3 PHASES of the NAVAL EXERCISE  VARUNA a part of which was conducted in the REUNION ISLANDS which is  not much far from the Mozambique strip

INDIA ALSO USES ASSUMPTION ISLAND OF SEYCHELLES.

6.MALDIVES

MALDIVES has is inclined towards china .it has also given some islands to china to develop naval facilities most of the maritime routes/oil transits choke points from the middle east pass between INDIAN MINICOY ISLAND and NORTHER MOST MALDIVIAN ISLANDS .these routes carry a major amount of OIL to china .this is one of the reasons why CHINA is interested in MALDIVES.To combat this threat INDIA is planning to build a bigger a bigger NAVAL BASE in MINICOY islands. BITRA, KAVARATI, ANDROTH  of the LAKSHADWEEP ISLAND GROUPS are the 3 islands where INDIA plans to develop FORWARD AIR BASES. The distance of these AIR BASES from MAINLAND INDIA is around 165 NM.( You can see how the thick line passes between the LAKSHADWEEP and the MALDIVES and further goes to EAST CHINA SEA )

I.S.I in INDIA [part-2]

ISI's DRONES IN PUNJAB

INTRO:-Pakistan’s ISI Was Planning an Attack of a magnitude similar to that of 26/11 MUMBAI TERROR ATTACKS, Drones Dropped Weapons, Grenades in Punjab.

The drones were fitted with high-end technology and GPS. They carried out at least '8 sorties' in September 2019 before dropping the weapons to the designated place.

 Punjab Police officials said.

"Pak's ISI Was Planning 26/11-Like Attack, Drones Dropped Weapons, Grenades in Punjab"

A large number of AK-47 assault rifles, satellite phones & grenades were dropped in Punjab's Taran Taran district by heavy-lifting drones that came from Pakistan, just ACROSS THE BORDER.

 The failed strategy was a master plan by Pakistan’s spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) to carry out an attack of 26/11 magnitude in "RELIGIOUS PLACES" in Punjab. The sources said that 8 drones have been used to drop the arms and ammunition in Punjab.

They carried out at least '8 sorties' for 10 days in September before dropping the weapons to the designated place, Punjab Police officials said. Investigation reveals that Pakistan-sponsored Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF)militants were planed to execute the attacks.

Chinese made drones with the capacity to carry the heavy payload to drop AK 47 rifles, ammunition, satellite phones and fake currency in Taran Taran were used.

5 AK-47 rifles and hand grenades were recovered from Rajoke village in Tarn Taran. The attacks were backed by a group based in Pakistan and Germany. The police said the terror group was planning to unleash a series of strikes in Punjab and its neighboring states. 

Since these drones were common in Punjab to spray pesticides in crops.ISI used this as its advantage. These drones are not much sophisticated but their capacity to lift heavy-payloads helped the planers to carry ASSAULT RIFLES, GRENADES, PISTOLS, CASH, AMMUNITIONS, etc.

THE LEAD: 

After 4 to 5 sorties, a drone crashed due to a technical problem. This crashed drone was being destroyed by operatives on the Indian side when state police got the input from local informers and arrested Shubdeep. The information obtained from SHUBDEEP further led to insights on the  

master plan and recovery of equipment and SATELLITE PHONES which were used to communicate with their PAKISTANI HANDLERS. Four more members were arrested later.

RECOVERY:

• 5 AK-47 rifles,
• 16 magazines and 
• 472 rounds of ammunition,
• 4 Chinese-made 0.30 bore pistols,
• 8 magazines
• 72 rounds of ammunition of pistol,
• 9 hand grenades,
• 5 satellite phones,
• 2 mobile phones, 
• 2 wireless sets and 
• fake currency with the face value of Rs 10 lakh was seized.

Punjab chief minister Capt. Amarinder Singh sir on Tuesday urged Union home minister Amit Shah Ji to tackle the “drone problem” at the earliest.

Punjab Director General of Police Dinkar Gupta sir said that the weapons were suspected to have been delivered recently from across the border by the ISI, state-sponsored jihadi and pro-Khalistani terrorist outfits working under its command.

INDIA's REACTION & COUNTER MEASURES: 

The DGCA and the CISF have conducted field trials to procure anti-drone technology. 

INDIA's primer COUNTER TERRORISM INVESTIGATION AGENCY ie.

The  NATIONAL INVESTIGATION AGENCY (NIA) is tasked with investigating the Taran taran case.

This is one out of many such incidents wherein PAKISTAN (ISI) is practicing its MILITARY DOCTRINE of "BLEED INDIA WITH THOUSAND CUTS" policy to instill communal riots in INDIA, therefore, trying to weaken INDIA and its growth and sponsoring THE BREAKING INDIA FORCES.

INTRODUCTION TO ISI: ISI is the premier intelligence agency of the ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF PAKISTAN and is headed by a PAK ARMY general of rank LT.GNL and operates under the instructions of DG-ISI who is further commanded by the COAS of the PAKISTANI ARMY.

Even a common man knows that PAKISTAN has spent a large amount of time under the MILITARY RULE.During this period the functioning of the state saw a drastic change and proved dangerous to its neighbours INDIA and AFGHANISTAN.
ISI had and still has a very crucial role to play in INDIA  AND AFGHANISTAN's POLITICAL SPECTRUM . "ISI IN AFGHANISTAN" will be covered in a different blog and  in this blog we will try to understand ISI in INDIA


ISI sees INDIA as its PRIMARY ENEMY and this can be understood and backed by understanding the structure of ISI. Not much of ISI's general  information is out in public domain but with a little chunck of information which it has put out it is clear that ISI was raised keeping INDIA at its centre

[1] Joint Intelligence Bureau (JIB) 
department devoted to carrying out acts of terrorism in India

[2]The Joint Signal Intelligence Bureau (JSIB) 
department involved in providing communication support to Pakistani terrorists operating in regions of the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir of India.

[3] The Joint Intelligence North section of the Joint Counter-Intelligence Bureau (JCIB)
  deals particularly with India.

[4] Covert Action Division
 supplied arms to insurgents in Northeast India  In the 1950s. 

in this way ISI and PAKISTANI ARMY along with its "TERROR BUDDIES" create a state of fear in INDIA .ISI's reach is not only limited to J&K but also in PUNJAB and NORTH-EAST INDIA and reports confirm that it also aims in setting up network and planting assets in MUSLIM MAJORITY AREAS in MAINLAND INDIA

 Recent visuals from J&k confirms the fact that the presence of ISIS (ISLAMIC STATE of IRAQ & SYRIA) in jammu and kashmir is true. but ISI may not have direct links with ISIS because its is seen that ISI is particularly interested in PRO-PAKISTAN and ANTI-INDIAN MILITANT GROUPS. While ISIS's AGENDA is GLOBAL JIHAD.
AMERICAN INTELLIGENCE the CIA in its reports said that ISI sponsors 6 terror groups in INDIA(J&K) while the actual number is more then 6.

ISI AND PAKISTAN SPENDS 24 MILLION RUPEES ON THESE GROUPS TO INFLICT DAMAGES ON INDIAN AND ITS FORCES .
these groups primarily operate in J&K .They infiltrate and exfiltrate through the LOC with cover firing from PAKISTANI ARMY AND PAKISTANI RANGERS
and radicalise,recruite,operate,attack in j&k .they have developed a very strong network among youth in the valley ,this provides them cover and essential time to escape from the INDIAN FORCES as their OVER-GROUND WORKERS pelt stones;block roads,and pelt petrol bombs on the FORCES disturbing the movement of the forces.
the 2019 "PULWAMA-ATTACK" on CRPF CONVOY was a deliberate targeted attack by the JAISH-E-MOHAMMAD and ISI was crucial in giving information to JeM.reports says that the RDX and other electronics needed for the making of the explosive was transferred through school children's bags women's shopping bags etc
